West Bengal Police Reshuffle: 28 IPS Officers Transferred, CID Chief Supratim Sarkar Moved

The West Bengal government on Tuesday (July 14, 2026) transferred 28 IPS officers, including Additional Director General of CID Supratim Sarkar, and five WBPS officers in a major reshuffle of the state's police top brass, according to an official notification.

Mr. Sarkar, who was heading the Criminal Investigation Department, has now been posted as ADG of Telecommunications. This comes after the Election Commission of India had earlier transferred him from the post of Kolkata Police Commissioner ahead of the state assembly polls in April this year.

IPS officer N.R. Babu, who was serving as Director General of the Correctional Services, will now take over as DG and IGP of the CID, the order stated.

In another key change, Amit Kumar Rathod will replace Tripurari Atharv as the new Commissioner of the Bidhannagar Police Commissionerate.

The reshuffle also saw K. Jayraman, formerly ADG of North Bengal, being posted as the Director of the Directorate of Economic Offences, according to the notification.

These transfers are part of a routine administrative exercise aimed at ensuring effective policing and addressing operational requirements across the state.
