Visakhapatnam Fertiliser Stocks Adequate for Kharif Season Through July, Says Agriculture Department

The Agriculture Department of Visakhapatnam district has announced that current fertiliser stocks are sufficient to meet the demand for the ongoing kharif season until the end of July. The statement was made on Tuesday, providing assurance to farmers regarding the availability of essential inputs.

According to District Agriculture Officer Appalaswamy, the kharif season, which spans from April to September, will see cultivation on approximately 5,421 hectares of agricultural crops and 4,397 hectares of horticultural crops. The total fertiliser requirement for this period is estimated at 3,200 tonnes, comprising 1,590 tonnes of urea, 931 tonnes of di-ammonium phosphate (DAP), 179 tonnes of potash, 412 tonnes of complex fertilisers, and 88 tonnes of other varieties.

As of Tuesday, the district had a stock of 1,161 tonnes of fertilisers, which includes 835 tonnes of urea, 77 tonnes of DAP, 37 tonnes of potash, 146 tonnes of complex fertilisers, and 63 tonnes of other varieties. The department assured that this inventory would be sufficient to meet immediate needs, with further replenishments expected as the season progresses.
