Vikram Solar to invest ₹15,037 crore in BESS plant in Tamil Nadu, creating 2,670 jobs

The Tamil Nadu government has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Vikram Solar Limited to set up a Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) manufacturing facility in the state. The plant will be located at the SIPCOT Industrial Park in Gangaikondan, Tirunelveli district, involving an investment of ₹15,037 crore and expected to create jobs for 2,670 people.

The MoU was signed on Thursday between the Industries, Investment Promotion and Commerce Department and Vikram Solar Limited, in the presence of Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay at the Secretariat in Chennai.

According to an official release, Vikram Solar already operates solar photovoltaic (PV) module manufacturing facilities at Oragadam and Vallam in Tamil Nadu. The company has also established an integrated manufacturing facility for solar PV cells and modules at Gangaikondan.

The new BESS facility will focus on manufacturing battery energy storage systems, which are critical for storing renewable energy and ensuring grid stability. This investment aligns with the state's push to become a hub for renewable energy and advanced manufacturing.

Officials present at the signing included Minister for Industries S. Keerthana; Chief Secretary M. Sai Kumar; Additional Chief Secretary S. Vijayakumar; Managing Director and CEO of Guidance Tamil Nadu Deepak Jacob; Vikram Solar Limited Chairman and Managing Director Gyanesh Chaudhary; CEO Arun Mittal; Director (Capital Investments) Ashwini Agarwal; and Advisor to the Board J.S. Bajaj.

The Tamil Nadu government has been actively attracting investments in the renewable energy sector, and this project is expected to contribute significantly to the state's economic growth and employment generation.
