Vijay's 'Jana Nayagan' Crosses Rs 171 Crore Worldwide in Three Days
Vijay's film Jana Nayagan has grossed an estimated Rs 171.84 crore worldwide in its first three days, according to trade tracker Sacnilk. The film, which is widely seen as the actor's final film before his planned entry into politics, was released on Thursday after months of delays.
On its third day (Saturday), the film collected Rs 28.50 crore net in India, a 34.8% jump from its Day 2 collection of Rs 21.15 crore net. Its total India net collection now stands at Rs 74.44 crore, with a gross of Rs 87.50 crore. Overseas markets contributed Rs 20 crore on Day 3, bringing the overseas total to Rs 63.50 crore.
Occupancy for the Tamil version was robust, with an overall 61.04% across 6,368 shows. Morning shows recorded 42.92% occupancy, which rose to 59.31% in the afternoon, 67% in the evening, and peaked at 74.92% during night shows. Chennai registered the highest occupancy at 86.8% from 1,046 shows, while Bengaluru had 48.5% from 707 shows.
The Hindi version collected Rs 2.70 crore net with 15% occupancy from 4,628 shows, and the Telugu version added Rs 1.40 crore net with 24% occupancy across 1,303 shows.
Director H. Vinoth, in an interview with Rangaraj Pandey, commented on the film's reception: 'Whenever a Vijay sir movie comes out, for about a week people say this is good, that isn’t good, this doesn’t work, that doesn’t, and all that. Then after a week, they say it’s not that great after all. Six months later, it starts becoming a big hit in society.'
