Uttar Pradesh Woman Hospitalised After Drinking Acid From Water Bottle at Jewellery Shop
A woman in Uttar Pradesh's Hapur district is undergoing treatment after she accidentally consumed acid from what she believed was a bottle of water. The incident took place at a jewellery shop on Friday evening.
According to police, the woman had visited the shop in Arjun Nagar area. Feeling thirsty, she asked for water. An employee was sent to a nearby confectionery to fetch a sealed bottle. The shopkeeper gave the bottle to the staff, who handed it to the woman.
The woman opened the bottle and took a sip, immediately realising it was not water. She screamed and rushed out to spit it out. She was taken to a local hospital and later referred to a medical college in critical condition.
Police have detained the confectionery's owner for questioning. The shopkeeper claimed the bottle was sealed and handed over as it was taken from the fridge. Police have recovered acid bottles from the shop and are investigating.
The incident highlights the importance of proper storage and labelling of hazardous substances. The police are examining whether the acid was mistakenly stored in a water bottle or if there was foul play.
The woman is currently under medical care, and her condition is reported as serious. Authorities are awaiting further details from the investigation.
