US envoy heads to Switzerland amid postponed Iran talks: Reports

American envoy Steve Witkoff was travelling to Switzerland on Friday, June 19, 2026, according to US media reports, after scheduled negotiations between the United States and Iran were postponed.

Axios reported, citing an unnamed US official, that Mr. Witkoff was en route to the Alpine nation. His trip comes as Washington and Tehran seek to resume technical talks that follow up on an initial peace deal, CNN reported.

Jared Kushner, US President Donald Trump's envoy, was also expected to be in Switzerland for discussions, CNN said, citing a US official. Axios reported that Mr. Kushner was already there. It remains unclear whether Mr. Witkoff will meet any Iranian officials.

Vice-President J.D. Vance had initially planned to travel but postponed his trip, the White House announced late on Thursday, June 18. The US-Iran talks scheduled for Friday were intended to build on the agreement that ended the West Asia war and to work towards a lasting settlement. No new date for the negotiations has been announced.

The war began on February 28 with US-Israeli strikes that killed Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.
