US Airstrikes Hit Iran After Ceasefire Ends; Iran Retaliates on Gulf States

The United States launched fresh airstrikes on Iran early Thursday, hours after US President Donald Trump declared the ceasefire in the Middle East conflict was over, according to reports from the region.

Explosions were reported in several cities along the Strait of Hormuz, including Bushehr, Chabahar, Bandar Abbas, Sirik, Jask, and Abu Musa Island. At least one person was killed in strikes in Iranshahr, and widespread power outages occurred in Chabahar after two docks and a maritime traffic control tower were hit.

In response, Tehran launched attacks on Bahrain, Kuwait, and Qatar, triggering missile alerts across the Gulf states. The Qatari Interior Ministry issued an alert stating the “security threat level is high” and urged citizens to stay indoors and in safe places.

The escalation follows months of tension in the region. The US had previously announced a ceasefire, but Trump’s statement that it was over prompted the new military action. No official comment from the US military or Iranian authorities has been released at this time.

Neighbouring countries have begun emergency measures. The Strait of Hormuz, a critical chokepoint for global oil shipments, is now a flashpoint, raising concerns about wider conflict. International organisations have called for restraint and a return to diplomatic talks.
