Two US Soldiers Killed in Jordan as Iran and US Trade Strikes in Escalating Conflict
Two United States military personnel were killed and one remains missing after Iran launched missiles into Jordan, according to US officials. The incident occurred at Muwaffaq Salti Air Base, where video footage showed several Iranian medium-range ballistic missiles striking the facility. Jordan's military said it intercepted 10 Iranian missiles overnight, but the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) claimed responsibility for targeting a US base in Azraq, Jordan, as well as sites in Kuwait and Bahrain.
In Kuwait, Iranian strikes hit an oil facility, causing injuries and material damage. Firefighters and a worker were hurt while battling blazes. Bahrain activated air sirens after detecting possible incoming drones or missiles. The Gulf Cooperation Council's secretary-general called the strikes on Kuwait's civilian infrastructure a war crime and a serious violation of international law.
Iran's attacks came after a seventh consecutive night of US airstrikes on Iranian territory, ordered by President Trump following the breakdown of a temporary ceasefire agreement. US Central Command said the strikes targeted surveillance sites, logistics infrastructure, underground weapons storage, and naval assets. Explosions were reported in Sirik, Ahvaz, and Yazd. Iran's health ministry said US strikes have killed 50 people and wounded more than 500 since the renewed hostilities began.
The IRGC also claimed that two oil tankers exploded after hitting mines in the Strait of Hormuz, blaming 'deceptive American intelligence agencies.' The US military denied this and said it had stopped four ships from transiting the strait. Senior military adviser Mohsen Rezaee warned that Iran would launch full-scale offensive operations if US strikes continued for another two to three days, according to Iran's IRIB news agency.
The situation remains tense, with both sides exchanging fire and international calls for de-escalation. The US has not officially commented on the missing soldier, and investigations are ongoing.
