TVK government to sign 97 MoUs worth ₹67,452 crore at Chennai conclave

Chennai: The Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) government will sign 97 memoranda of understanding (MoUs) at the Vettri Tamil Nadu Investment Conclave 2026, scheduled in Chennai on Thursday, August 13, 2026. A senior government official said the proposed investments are expected to exceed ₹67,452 crore. Once the projects become operational, they are projected to create employment for about 1,06,998 people. The agreements span sectors such as manufacturing, technology, renewable energy, and life sciences.

This conclave is the first major investment event under the new government, which assumed office recently. Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay will preside over the event. The conclave is being organised to showcase Tamil Nadu's investment potential and to attract capital across multiple sectors. The event is expected to draw participation from industry leaders across the globe.

Industries and Investment Promotion Minister S. Keerthana confirmed the development. She said: “Our government has always believed that sustainable economic growth is built on partnership, trust and execution. Vettri Tamil Nadu Investment Conclave 2026 reflects our ambition to create opportunities, generate quality employment and build industries that will define the future. We look forward to welcoming investors and business leaders from across India and the world.”

The official said the investments are a “healthy mix” of greenfield and brownfield projects, with more than half being greenfield. Greenfield projects involve the creation of new facilities, while brownfield projects focus on expanding or upgrading existing ones. Several companies are investing in Tamil Nadu for the first time, which the official described as a sign of growing investor interest in the State.

The projects are spread across nearly 20 districts, with more than half located outside the State's traditional industrial belt. This distribution, according to the official, reflects an effort to promote industrial development in newer areas.

The conclave will also have considerable international participation, with companies headquartered in over 15 countries taking part. Tamil Nadu has long been a preferred destination for global investors. In the past, it has attracted major investments from companies based in Germany, Japan, South Korea, the United Kingdom, and the United States. These companies have established manufacturing and research facilities in Tamil Nadu over the years.

The event's theme, “Where Vision Becomes Victory,” will highlight Tamil Nadu's strengths in manufacturing, technology, electronics, renewable energy, mobility, aerospace, life sciences, global capability centres, and emerging industries. Apart from the signing of MoUs, the conclave will feature discussions and interactions among government and industry leaders, offering opportunities for future partnerships. The conclave is designed to facilitate direct engagement between investors and key government functionaries.

Tamil Nadu has one of the largest economies among Indian states, with a robust industrial base. The state is particularly strong in automobile manufacturing, textiles, engineering, and information technology. The influx of new investments is expected to further strengthen these sectors and create multiplier effects in the local economy.

The official added that the conclave is an important part of the government's strategy to accelerate economic growth and generate quality employment.

It is important to note that MoUs are expressions of intent. Actual investment flows will depend on subsequent steps, including regulatory clearances, land acquisition, infrastructure readiness, and market conditions. Such agreements are common in investment summits and serve as a preliminary step. The success of these projects will depend on sustained follow-up and coordination between the investors and the state government.
