Trump Vows Retaliation After Iran's Ballistic Missile Attack
United States President Donald Trump has threatened a strong military response after Iran launched multiple ballistic missiles towards American forces in the Middle East. In an interview with Fox News, Trump said the United States would retaliate forcefully, using strong language to describe the intended response.
The US military reported that all incoming missiles were intercepted before reaching their target. Trump described the attack as a 'surprise attack', noting that American troops had only minutes to respond. He praised the effectiveness of the missile defence systems in protecting US personnel.
The attack targeted a US military base in Jordan, according to officials cited by Axios. The US Central Command (CENTCOM) confirmed that Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps launched the missiles from Iranian territory late Tuesday, calling it an attempted surprise attack on US forces.
Trump also defended recent joint US-Saudi strikes on pro-Iranian militia groups in Iraq, stating that the operations were conducted in coordination with the Iraqi government. He referred to Iran-backed militias as a threat to global stability.
Despite the escalation, Trump indicated that diplomatic engagement with Iran would continue. He said American negotiators would persist in talks with Tehran even as military tensions rise across the region.
The incident has heightened tensions between Washington and Tehran, which have been locked in a long-standing standoff over Iran's nuclear programme and regional influence.
