Trump, Netanyahu Explore All Iran Options Including Military Strike: Israeli Official

US President Donald Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu discussed all possible approaches to curbing Iran's nuclear programme during their meeting at the White House, including diplomacy, economic pressure, and military force, a senior Israeli official confirmed on Wednesday.

The official, speaking on condition of anonymity, told reporters that Netanyahu did not express a preference for an attack on Iran. 'In the end, it's his decision,' the official said, referring to Trump. The three options—a diplomatic deal, continued economic blockade and pressure, and a massive strike—were all discussed at length.

The official noted signs of rising inflation and public frustration in Iran, suggesting the clerical rulers may be under internal pressure. However, the impact on the global economy and oil markets was also a factor in the deliberations.

Oil prices surged sharply on Wednesday amid escalating tensions, though the official clarified that Israel was not involved in the recent US bombing campaign against Iran. The United States and Saudi Arabia struck Iran-backed paramilitary groups in Iraq, and Trump vowed strong retaliation after Iran fired on US bases in Jordan and at ships in the Strait of Hormuz. Iran confirmed the attacks and rejected an Omani proposal to jointly manage the strait.

The meeting underscores the strategic alignment between the US and Israel on the Iran issue, but the official emphasised that no final decision has been made. The situation remains fluid, with diplomatic and economic avenues still under consideration alongside the military option.

North Korea says live-fire drill showed 'huge destructive power' of concentrated fire

North Korea said it conducted a joint live-fire drill involving missiles, artillery and drones, claiming it demonstrated the "huge destructive power of concentration fire." South Korea's military detected short-range ballistic missile launches from the Wonsan area that flew about 250 kilometres each. The claims cannot be independently verified, and ballistic missile launches are prohibited under UN Security Council resolutions.
