Trump and Meloni Exchange Barbs Over G7 Photo Dispute

Former US President Donald Trump and Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni engaged in a public exchange of criticism on Tuesday, following a disagreement over a photograph taken at the recent G7 summit.

The dispute began when Trump claimed on social media that Meloni had been sidelined in a group photo of world leaders. Meloni's office quickly refuted the claim, stating that the prime minister was positioned appropriately and that Trump's assertion was inaccurate.

In response, Trump issued a statement saying, "I can only say it is regrettable he does not show the same determination towards the enemies of the West and towards the enemies of the US - [enemies] whose leaders he instead appears to be far more accommodating with."

Political analysts note that the exchange highlights ongoing tensions between the two leaders, who have often found themselves at odds over issues ranging from trade to immigration. However, both sides have downplayed the significance of the spat, with Meloni's office describing it as a minor misunderstanding.

The G7 summit, held in southern Italy, brought together leaders from Canada, France, Germany, Japan, the United Kingdom, the United States, and the host nation. Discussions focused on climate change, economic recovery, and global security, but the photo disagreement has drawn attention away from the substantive outcomes of the meeting.

Neither Trump nor Meloni have indicated any further escalation, and both are expected to focus on domestic priorities in the coming weeks.
