T.N. power cuts: BJP seeks urgent intervention, cites impact on homes and industries

BJP State president Nainar Nagenthran on Monday urged Electricity Minister R. Nirmalkumar to address frequent power cuts and low voltage in Tamil Nadu, which he said were affecting households and industries across the State.

In a statement, Mr. Nagenthran referred to a newspaper report about voltage fluctuations damaging appliances in various parts of the State. He said the problem continued even after the end of the summer season when electricity demand usually peaks, highlighting what he called the "administrative failure" of the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK)-led government.

The BJP leader said households were facing additional financial burdens due to damaged appliances and the "lackadaisical attitude" of the government. He also noted that industrial units in several areas had been adversely affected by the interruptions.

Mr. Nagenthran requested the Minister to look into the issue and take immediate corrective measures. The BJP is the principal opposition party in Tamil Nadu, and its criticism comes amid ongoing political rivalry with the ruling TVK.

Power supply reliability has been a recurring concern in the State, with both domestic users and businesses depending on steady electricity for daily operations. The exact scale of the disruptions or the government's response to the allegations has not yet been independently verified.
