TMC Relaunches Helpline for Workers Alleging Post-Poll Harassment by BJP

Trinamool Congress (TMC) national general secretary Abhishek Banerjee on Tuesday relaunched the party's outreach initiative, 'Ek Daake Abhishek', which aims to provide legal assistance and support to party workers who claim to have faced harassment and intimidation after the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) came to power in West Bengal.

The initiative includes a dedicated helpline through which workers can register complaints. Party representatives will receive these complaints and take necessary action, according to a statement from the TMC.

A banner released with the project alleges that TMC workers have been subjected to 'harassment, intimidation, unlawful detention and politically motivated cases by the BJP Government' since 4 May 2026. The banner reads: 'WE STAND FIRMLY WITH EVERY AFFECTED WORKER AND WILL PROVIDE ALL NECESSARY LEGAL ASSISTANCE AND SUPPORT.'

The move comes amid reports of TMC workers being paraded with ropes around their waist, pelted with stones and eggs, and facing other forms of harassment across the state. The TMC has accused the BJP government of orchestrating a crackdown on its workers following the recent elections.

The BJP has yet to officially respond to these allegations. Political analysts note that such helplines are often used by parties to mobilise support and document grievances, especially in the aftermath of contentious elections.
