TMC MP Mahua Moitra alleges midnight eviction order from Nadia Circuit House
Krishnanagar MP Mahua Moitra, a leader of the Trinamool Congress, has alleged that she was asked to vacate the Nadia Circuit House late at night despite having formally checked in and been allotted accommodation. The MP said she refused to leave the premises in the middle of the night and questioned why such a directive was issued at that hour.
The incident, according to Moitra, took place when she was staying at the government-run circuit house in Nadia district. Circuit houses are official guesthouses maintained by state governments, typically used by visiting officials and public representatives. Allotment of rooms is usually done through prescribed administrative procedures.
Moitra, who represents the Krishnanagar constituency in the Lok Sabha, said she had completed the check-in formalities and received a room allocation. It was only later in the night that she was reportedly asked to vacate. Taking to social media, she expressed surprise at the timing of the request, calling it unusual and questioning the rationale behind it.
“I was asked to leave at night. I told them I will not leave in the middle of the night. This is not acceptable,” Moitra said in remarks circulated by news agencies. She also shared details of the incident with her followers, drawing attention to what she described as an arbitrary action.
The MP’s statement has come at a time when political tensions in West Bengal remain elevated ahead of local elections. However, Moitra herself did not link the incident to any political rivalry, instead focusing on the procedural aspects of the eviction order.
No official response has been received from the district administration or the state government as of the time of writing. The superintendent of police and district magistrate of Nadia have not yet commented on the allegation. Attempts to reach officials for clarification were unsuccessful.
Circuit house rules typically require occupants to vacate by a specified time on the day their booking expires. Extensions are generally granted based on availability and prior approval. It is unclear whether any such rule was invoked in this case, as no official statement has been released.
Moitra’s allegation has triggered reactions from political circles. Some of her supporters have called for an inquiry, while opposition figures have used the opportunity to criticise the state administration. The Trinamool Congress leadership has yet to issue a formal statement on the matter.
This is not the first time that the MP has been involved in a controversy with administrative authorities. In the past, she has raised questions about governance and transparency in West Bengal. However, her latest claim is specific to the treatment she says she received at the Nadia Circuit House.
