TMC Leader Abhishek Banerjee's Aide Sumit Roy Booked in Fraud and Forgery Case

Kolkata: Sumit Roy, a close aide of Trinamool Congress (TMC) leader Abhishek Banerjee, has been booked in a case of fraud and forgery, police officials confirmed on Monday. The case was registered at a local police station in Kolkata based on a complaint filed by a private individual.

According to the First Information Report (FIR), Roy is accused of forging documents and defrauding the complainant of a significant sum of money. The specific details of the alleged fraud have not been disclosed pending investigation.

Sumit Roy is known as a key associate of Abhishek Banerjee, who is the nephew of West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and a prominent leader within the TMC. The party has not yet issued an official statement regarding the case.

Police officials stated that an investigation is underway and that further action will be taken based on evidence gathered. Roy has not been arrested as of now, and no immediate comment from his legal team was available.

This development comes amidst heightened political activity in West Bengal, with the TMC facing scrutiny from opposition parties over allegations of corruption. However, the case against Roy appears to be a private complaint and not directly linked to any political matter at this stage.

As per constitutional principles, the accused is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law. The investigation is expected to proceed in accordance with legal procedures.
