Telangana SIR: 8.38 Lakh Applications Filed, Processing Slow as 6.49 Lakh Pending Over 45 Days
The Election Commission of India (ECI) has received a total of 8,38,558 applications under the Claims and Objections phase of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in Telangana. This phase is set to conclude on October 7. The data was shared by Chief Electoral Officer C. Sudarshan Reddy. The SIR is a special drive aimed at cleaning up the electoral rolls by verifying electors and removing discrepancies.
Of the total applications, 4,43,705 are for fresh enrolment through Form-6, while 3,57,898 are for corrections through Form-8. Applications for deletion via Form-7 amount to 30,676, and 6,279 applications pertain to the enrolment of Non-Resident Indians (NRIs) through Form-6A.
The processing of these applications is ongoing, with 8,14,160 applications still pending. Among these, 6,49,085 have been pending for 45 days or more. The highest number of applications, 3,04,354, has been received from the 15 constituencies of Hyderabad district. Within Hyderabad, 1,90,595 were for fresh enrolment, 1,04,433 for corrections, and 5,256 for deletion. Medchal Malkajgiri registered 1,16,752 applications, while Ranga Reddy district received 1,15,444. The lowest number was from Mulugu, at 836.
In the notice phase, which is set to end on November 5, a total of 4,90,600 notices are yet to be delivered to voters with anomalies and unmapped voters. Against a total of 92,88,180 notices generated, 87,97,580 have been delivered to the respective electors. According to data from the CEO’s office, hearings have been conducted for 59,51,696 electors, and 46,10,367 electors have been cleared at the level of Electoral Registration Officers (EROs) and Assistant Electoral Registration Officers (AEROs) for publication in the final rolls.
Along with voters for whom no notices have been generated, the total number of voters approved for the final rolls so far stands at 1,41,02,982, which is over half of the electors whose names figure in the draft electoral rolls.
However, electors not cleared by the EROs/AEROs cannot be presumed to have been deleted, as document verification is being escalated to the respective District Election Officers (DEOs). A large number of cases remain pending at this level. As of Monday, 4,12,923 applications are pending with the DEOs for verification. A total of 19,85,343 electors have been verified at the DEO’s level. So far, 4,570 entries have been found ineligible for publication in the final roll.
The notice phase is a critical part of the SIR, where electors with discrepancies in their details are notified and given an opportunity to present their case. The ECI has set a deadline of November 5 for this phase. The data shows that while a significant number of notices have been delivered, a large number are still pending. The ECI has been conducting hearings to resolve the issues.
At the DEO level, verification of documents is being carried out for cases that could not be resolved at the ERO/AERO level. This step is intended to ensure that no eligible voter is wrongly excluded. The ECI has clarified that electors whose names are not cleared by the EROs/AEROs will not be automatically deleted; their cases will be examined by the DEOs.
The SIR process involves multiple stages: house-to-house verification, issuance of notices to electors with discrepancies, and hearings to resolve claims and objections. The final rolls will be published after all verifications are complete. The ECI has stated that the process is aimed at ensuring the accuracy and integrity of the electoral rolls.
Voters who have filed claims or objections can track the status of their applications. The ECI has urged electors to cooperate with the verification process to ensure that no eligible voter is left out and no ineligible entry remains.
