Telangana Congress Chief Alleges Voter List Irregularities, Calls for Grassroots Strengthening

Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) president B. Mahesh Kumar Goud on Monday alleged that eligible voters were being removed from electoral rolls under the guise of a Special Intensive Revision (SIR) exercise, raising concerns about the integrity of democratic processes. Speaking at a meeting of Booth Level Agents (BLA) in the Warangal West constituency, he urged party workers to strengthen the organisation at the grassroots level to address public issues.

Mr. Goud claimed that the current voter list revision differed from past exercises and questioned its intent, stating that the right to vote is fundamental in a democracy. He criticized the BJP-led Union government, alleging that the Election Commission was not functioning independently. He further asserted that voters from Muslim, Scheduled Caste, Scheduled Tribe, and tribal communities who were perceived as Congress supporters were being targeted.

The TPCC chief said the deletion of a large number of votes in previous elections had affected democratic processes and that the Congress opposed any measures that could influence the people's mandate. He also alleged that AICC State in-charge Ms. Natarajan, who was present at the meeting, faced an unfair rejection at the nomination stage in Telangana despite no cases or complaints against her.

Mr. Goud added that history had shown that targeting leaders who follow Gandhian principles weakens democracy, and that governments, however powerful, would have to face public accountability. The party's statements are part of ongoing political discourse in the state.
