Telangana CM to Inaugurate 1,000-Bed MCR TIMS Sanathnagar on August 17
The Marri Chenna Reddy Telangana Institute of Medical Sciences (MCR TIMS) at Sanathnagar will be formally inaugurated on August 17 by Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy, according to hospital director A. Narendra Kumar. The event marks the end of a long wait for the 1,000-bed facility, which is finally set to move towards full-scale operations.
Health Minister C. Damodar Raja Narasimha and senior officials are expected to attend the inauguration, Dr. Kumar told The Hindu ahead of the ceremony.
The hospital, renamed after former Chief Minister Marri Chenna Reddy on July 31, has seen multiple tentative launch dates announced and postponed over the past several months. A trial run began on May 1 as part of preparations for the formal opening.
The ₹1,070-crore project received administrative sanction on April 21, 2022, and the foundation stone was laid five days later. Spread across 22.6 acres within the existing Government Chest Hospital campus, the facility has a total built-up area of 11.68 lakh square feet.
Megha Engineering and Infrastructures Ltd. (MEIL) executed the project under a design-build model, with M/s OCI Architects serving as the project management consultant. The hospital comprises four blocks designed to house emergency care, advanced diagnostics, surgery, critical care, outpatient services, and academic and administrative functions.
Block A will be dedicated to emergency services, featuring 15 operation theatres and 30 intensive care units. Block B will serve as the main outpatient registration and service area, and will include a centralised pharmacy, a cardiac operation theatre, cath labs, and a LINAC-based facility for cancer treatment. Block C will accommodate radiology and pathology laboratories, general and private wards, and VIP suites. Block D has been earmarked for administrative and academic purposes, including a 200-seat auditorium.
The hospital is expected to provide advanced medical care to a large number of patients in Hyderabad and surrounding regions, easing the load on existing government healthcare institutions. The inauguration on August 17 will be a significant step in strengthening the state's public health infrastructure.
