Telangana BJP to Offer 90% Opportunities to Youth in Local Body Elections
The Telangana BJP has announced plans to allocate up to 90% of opportunities to young leaders in the upcoming municipal corporation elections. Party president N. Ramchander Rao made the statement on Thursday while inducting new members at the party state office.
Mr. Rao stated that improved employment opportunities due to the central government's economic reforms have made the BJP increasingly attractive to the youth. He also claimed that Prime Minister Narendra Modi enjoys significant popularity among Generation Z voters.
The BJP leader accused the Congress party of attempting to mislead young people. He called for educating the current generation about the suppression of democracy during the Emergency imposed in the mid-1970s by the then Congress government. Mr. Rao asserted that the Congress party must apologise for undermining the Constitution during that period, when fundamental rights were curtailed and many were jailed. He remarked that leaders who carry copies of the Constitution today have no moral right to speak about it.
He further alleged that the Emergency undermined the spirit of the Constitution and disrespected Dr. B.R. Ambedkar. Mr. Rao reiterated the BJP's commitment to upholding constitutional values and protecting citizens' rights.
Earlier, speaking to the media, Mr. Rao urged citizens to participate in the Election Commission's Special Intensive Revision (SIR) to ensure a clean and accurate electoral roll. He said people should not believe falsehoods spread by the Congress, BRS, and MIM parties, and no genuine voter will be removed.
While the Congress and BRS parties have opposed the SIR exercise, Mr. Rao pointed out that Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy has asked ministers to take the process seriously. He alleged that the BRS is opposing SIR because of its weakened cadre strength and booth-level networks.
The BJP also accused Congress leaders of spreading fear among North Indian migrants by falsely claiming they would lose property rights if their names were not registered where they work. Mr. Rao clarified that the SIR exercise targets only duplicate, fake, deceased, or illegal entries, and not genuine voters or any community.
