TDP leader killed in Kurnool; Minister assures stringent action

Kurnool: A Telugu Desam Party (TDP) leader was allegedly murdered in an altercation with a group of persons in Kurnool town on Thursday night. The deceased has been identified as Sheik Intiyaz Basha, 35, a resident of Old Basthi in Kurnool.

According to the One-Town police, Intiyaz Basha had met some friends when an argument broke out among them. The altercation escalated, and one of the persons allegedly picked up a large stone and struck him on the head, killing him on the spot. The police have registered a case and are investigating the matter.

The body was shifted to the Government Medical College, Kurnool, for post-mortem. As a precautionary measure, a police picket has been posted in the Old Basthi locality to prevent any untoward incident.

Minister for Industries T. G. Bharat Gupta expressed shock over the murder on Friday. Condemning the incident, he said the death of Intiyaz Basha was deeply distressing and assured the bereaved family of the party's full support. He emphasised that stringent action would be taken against those responsible for the crime.

The incident has raised concerns about law and order in the region. Local residents have called for a thorough investigation to ensure that the culprits are brought to justice at the earliest. Further details are awaited as the police continue their probe.
