Tamil Nadu signs ₹1,000-crore pact with Hitachi for expansion, 1,000 jobs to be created

The Tamil Nadu government has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Hitachi Energy Technology Services Private Limited for the expansion of its facilities at Porur and Chengalpattu. The agreement was formalised on Tuesday (July 7, 2026) at the Secretariat in Chennai in the presence of Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay.

According to an official release, the two projects involve a total investment of ₹1,000 crore and are expected to create 1,000 high-skilled technology jobs. The expansion will be implemented over the next three to five years.

The MoU was signed by senior officials from both sides. Tamil Nadu Minister for Industries S. Keerthana, Chief Secretary M. Sai Kumar, Additional Chief Secretary (Industries, Investment Promotion and Commerce) S. Vijayakumar, Guidance Tamil Nadu Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer Deepak Jacob, Hitachi India Managing Director Venu Nuguri, Chief Growth and Strategy Officer Karthik Krishnamoorthy, and other senior officials were present at the event.

The investment is expected to boost the state's manufacturing and technology sectors, aligning with the government's efforts to attract industrial investments and generate employment opportunities.
