Tamil Nadu Opposition Leader Demands Withdrawal of New Delhi Special Representative Appointment

Chennai: DMDK general secretary Premallatha Vijayakant on Sunday questioned the appointment of film producer Venkata Narayana as the Special Representative of Tamil Nadu in New Delhi, arguing that he is not from the state and that other qualified candidates were available. She urged the state government and Chief Minister M.K. Stalin to withdraw the appointment.

Addressing a separate controversy, Ms. Premallatha commented on a viral video allegedly showing Minister Sarathkumar making movements resembling preparation for drug consumption. She stated that if the video is genuine, the act is highly condemnable.

She also criticised members of the Tamil Maanila Congress (TMC) cadre for allegedly interfering in school functioning and encouraging students to sing film songs instead of focusing on academics.

The DMDK leader's remarks come amid ongoing political tensions in the state. The appointment of Venkata Narayana, a film producer with no prior diplomatic or administrative experience, has drawn criticism from opposition parties, who question the criteria for selection.

No official response from the state government has been received yet.
