Tamil Nadu Government Names Tambaram Road After Gallant Major Mukund Varadarajan, Ashoka Chakra Recipient

The Tamil Nadu government, led by Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay, has issued an order to name a road in Tambaram after late Army officer Major Mukund Varadarajan, who was posthumously awarded the Ashoka Chakra, India's highest peacetime gallantry award.

The decision came following a request from the Indian Army. The road, which connects Tambaram railway station and Velachery, lies within the limits of the Tambaram Municipal Corporation.

Major Mukund Varadarajan, a native of Ananthapuram in Tamil Nadu, was a former student of Madras Christian College. He was killed in action on 25 April 2014 during an encounter with terrorists in Jammu and Kashmir's Shopian district. For his exceptional bravery, he was conferred the Ashoka Chakra in 2014.

The naming of the road serves as a tribute to his sacrifice and dedication to the nation. Local residents and veterans have welcomed the move, stating that it will inspire future generations.

The Tamil Nadu government has a history of honouring military personnel by naming public infrastructure after them. This initiative aligns with the state's commitment to recognizing the contributions of the armed forces.
