Tamil Nadu DMK MLA Arrested for Remarks Against Chief Minister Vijay

Tiruchendur DMK MLA and former Fisheries Minister Anitha Radhakrishnan was arrested at Authoor in Thoothukudi district on Friday for allegedly making derogatory remarks against Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay. The arrest followed the dismissal of his anticipatory bail plea by the Madras High Court in a case registered by Authoor police over the remarks.

After the arrest, Radhakrishnan was taken to the Thoothukudi District Superintendent of Police office for further investigation. The case stems from a speech in which the MLA is accused of using objectionable language against the Chief Minister.

Reacting to the arrest, DMK president and former Chief Minister M.K. Stalin questioned the urgency of the action, noting that the MLA was conducting an inspection in his constituency at the time. Stalin also drew a comparison with the case of the Srivaikuntam TVK MLA, against whom a woman had made gang-rape allegations, stating that no similar action had been taken in that matter. He accused the government of failing to address serious crimes while focusing on arresting opposition members.

Thoothukudi MP and DMK deputy general secretary Kanimozhi condemned the arrest, stating that the DMK would not bow to what she described as oppressive tactics.
