Tamil Nadu CM Warns Cabinet Against Corruption, Vows Action

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay on Thursday warned his Cabinet colleagues and senior officials that he would not tolerate corruption or irregularities in their departments.

Sources said the Chief Minister, chairing a meeting of his Cabinet, made it clear that he would not hesitate to take action against anyone found guilty and that no one could later fault him for doing so.

“Do not think that we will be in power for only five years and that you can do whatever you want. We will continue to govern the State,” he said.

Mr Vijay also advised Ministers not to make a spectacle of their inspections related to their departments.

“We are here to serve the people. Do not bring disrepute to the government. I will also take action against officials who are unwilling to cooperate with the government in implementing its programmes and achieving its goals,” he is learnt to have told them.

US imposes fixed-term visas for students, journalists, exchange visitors

The US Department of Homeland Security has issued a rule imposing fixed-term visas for international students, exchange visitors, and foreign journalists, replacing the current open-ended system. The changes, which take effect in 60 days, create new hurdles for visa extensions and transfers, significantly affecting Indian nationals who form the largest group of international students in the US.
