Tamil Nadu CM Launches Polio Drive, Targets 53 Lakh Children
Chief Minister M.K. Stalin on Sunday launched the Pulse Polio Immunisation Campaign at the Government Adi Dravidar Welfare School in Palavakkam, Chennai. He administered oral polio vaccine to children and distributed gifts to them.
The State government has arranged to administer polio drops to 52.91 lakh children under five years of age at 43,051 centres across Tamil Nadu, including government hospitals, primary health centres, anganwadi centres, and schools.
Temporary transit booths have been set up at bus terminals, railway stations, airports, toll plazas, and check posts. Polio vaccination centres operated from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. on June 28, and the drive will continue at transit booths on June 29 and 30.
The campaign will cover children of migrant workers from other States residing in Tamil Nadu. Over two lakh health workers, anganwadi workers, teachers, and volunteers have been deployed.
Health Minister K.G. Arunraj, Sholinganallur MLA P. Saravanan, and senior health department and Greater Chennai Corporation officials were present.
