Supreme Court Directs CBSE to Detail Steps Against Digital Evaluation Errors
The Supreme Court of India has directed the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) to provide a detailed account of measures taken to address discrepancies in its digital evaluation system. The directive came during a hearing on a petition concerning alleged irregularities in the online assessment process that has affected thousands of students across the country.
According to court records, a one-member commission has been constituted to investigate the technical and procedural lapses. The commission is expected to examine the extent of the errors and recommend corrective actions. The Court expressed concern over the distress caused to students due to these system failures, emphasising the need for swift and transparent remedies.
The Ministry of Education had earlier removed certain CBSE officials and ordered an internal inquiry. However, the Supreme Court noted that more concrete steps are required to prevent recurrence and restore confidence in the examination system.
The digital evaluation system, introduced to streamline the marking process and reduce manual errors, has been marred by glitches leading to incorrect scores for many students. Affected students and parents have repeatedly raised complaints, prompting judicial intervention. The Court has asked CBSE to submit a comprehensive report on the specific measures implemented, including software upgrades, quality checks, and grievance redressal mechanisms.
The next hearing is scheduled for later this month, where the board is expected to present its progress. The Court has made it clear that the interests of students are paramount and that any lapses in evaluation will be dealt with strictly.
