Special Camps on Saturday to Enroll New Voters at All Polling Stations
The District Collector, Anand Mohan, has announced that special camps to enrol new voters will be held on Saturday, October 10, at all polling stations across the district. The camps will operate from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and are aimed at including citizens who have completed 18 years of age in the electoral roll. This initiative is expected to benefit a large number of first-time voters in the district.
Mr. Anand Mohan made the announcement while addressing a meeting of the Election Literacy Club at the Collectorate on Thursday. He said the camps are being organised as per instructions from the Election Commission of India (ECI). The ECI has directed that such camps be held in all States and Union Territories where the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls has been completed. The SIR is conducted to ensure that the electoral roll is accurate and up-to-date.
As a preliminary step to the camps, Electors Registration Officers have been visiting every household since Wednesday, October 7. They are collecting forms for the inclusion of new voters, deletion of names, and corrections in existing entries. This door-to-door exercise is intended to make the enrolment process easier for residents. The officers are also distributing blank forms to those who need them.
Eligible voters who wish to enrol should submit Form 6, along with a colour passport-size photograph and copies of documents that prove their age and residential address. The Collector urged all eligible young voters to visit their nearest polling station on Saturday and complete the enrolment process.
Common documents accepted as proof of age include a birth certificate, Class 10 or 12 marksheet, passport, or Aadhaar card. For residential address, a ration card, electricity bill, water bill, telephone bill, or bank passbook can be submitted. Voters are advised to carry original documents for verification, along with photocopies.
Form 6 is available free of cost at all polling stations and can also be downloaded from the official website of the Election Commission of India. The forms can be submitted at the camps or to the visiting Electors Registration Officers.
In addition to the physical camps, citizens can also enrol themselves through the ECINET App. This mobile application, developed by the ECI, allows users to register and access various voter services online. The app is available for download on both Android and iOS platforms. The Collector highlighted this option as a convenient alternative for those who cannot visit the polling stations.
The meeting was attended by District Revenue Officer S. Vidhya. The Election Literacy Club meeting served as a platform to discuss ways to increase voter awareness and participation in the district.
The Special Intensive Revision is a comprehensive exercise undertaken by the ECI to update electoral rolls. It ensures that all eligible citizens are included and that the rolls are free from errors. The upcoming camps are part of this ongoing effort to strengthen the democratic process by facilitating voter registration.
Mr. Anand Mohan emphasised that the participation of young voters is crucial for a vibrant democracy. He urged them to come forward and enrol themselves without delay. The district administration is making all efforts to facilitate the process, he added.
Officials have reminded the public that enrolment is a voluntary but important civic duty. By registering to vote, citizens can exercise their right to choose their representatives. The district administration has encouraged all eligible individuals to take advantage of the special camps and ensure their names appear on the electoral roll.
Assistance will be available at the polling stations to help fill out the forms. The administration has urged everyone to cooperate and make the camp a success. The district administration has appealed to all eligible citizens to seize this opportunity and register themselves.
