SCCL Deploys Special Officers to Boost Coal Output and Quality Amid Rising Power Demand
Hyderabad: Singareni Collieries Company Ltd (SCCL) has launched a special initiative to increase coal production and ensure uninterrupted supply of coal that meets declared quality standards, the company announced on Saturday.
Buddhaprakash Jyoti, Chairman and Managing Director of SCCL, appointed special officers for each mining area to monitor coal production, quality, grade protection, dispatch, productivity, process improvement, and coordination between area and corporate departments. The officers will also oversee implementation of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programmes for the next three months. The move comes in response to rising electricity demand in Telangana state due to El Niño weather conditions, which have increased the need for coal-fired power generation.
During a virtual meeting with Area General Managers, Jyoti reviewed coal production, quality, and dispatch. He emphasised that coal quality is the hallmark of Singareni and that there would be no compromise on maintaining it. Officials reported that in some areas, mixing of ungraded coal and shale was affecting coal quality. Jyoti instructed them to take strict corrective measures to prevent recurrence.
The CMD directed that mining operations be carried out strictly seam-wise according to the Annual Coal Gradation Plan, and that coal production must conform to the declared grade. He further instructed that coal benches be thoroughly cleaned before blasting in off-loading areas, and adequate distance maintained between coal benches and overburden benches. Rock and shale layers should be excavated separately without mixing with coal and shifted only to overburden dumps. He also instructed officials to ensure adequate numbers of crushers in all opencast mines and Coal Handling Plants (CHPs) and that they remain operational at all times.
SCCL is a state-owned coal mining company in Telangana, India, and is a key supplier of coal to power plants in the region.
