Samsung Cuts Nearly 840 US Jobs, Offers Relocations as It Shifts HQ to Texas
Samsung Electronics has reduced its workforce in the United States, affecting operations in display, phone, and other consumer electronics sectors, according to company documents and sources familiar with the matter. The majority of cuts occurred at the company's Englewood Cliffs, New Jersey, facility, where 739 roles were impacted as part of a plan to move the headquarters of Samsung Electronics America (SEA) to Texas. SEA oversees consumer electronics and does not include Samsung's semiconductor operations.
In a statement to Reuters on Sunday, Samsung confirmed the workforce changes, noting that most affected employees received offers to relocate to Texas, while others were let go. The company did not provide additional details on the separations. At SEA's Plano, Texas, office, approximately 100 workers, including staff in the mobile division, were laid off, according to an individual who was among those affected. The sources requested anonymity due to the sensitivity of the matter.
The job cuts come as Samsung continues to restructure its US operations, consolidating its consumer electronics headquarters in Texas. The move is part of a broader strategy to streamline operations and reduce costs amid a competitive global market. Affected employees in New Jersey and Texas face decisions about relocation or seeking new employment outside the company.
