Safety Equipment Distributed to Sanitary Workers Under NAMASTE Scheme in Madurai

Madurai Corporation Commissioner Gaurav Kumar on Tuesday distributed safety equipment to sanitary workers as part of the NAMASTE scheme, according to a press release.

The NAMASTE (National Action Plan for Mechanised Sanitation Ecosystem) scheme is being implemented jointly by the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment and the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs. It aims to enhance the safety, dignity, and livelihood of sanitary workers who clean sewers and septic tanks.

To honour these workers, July 14th of every year is celebrated as NAMASTE Day, the press release said. As part of the initiative, Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) kits were distributed to sanitary workers at Madurai Corporation. Additionally, awareness sessions on safe operating practices were conducted.

City Health Officer Arvind Jyothi, Chief Engineer Ramasamy, Health Officer Thirumal, Health Inspector Chellapandi, Assistant Engineer Amardeep, and other officials were present during the event.
