Russian aerial strike kills one, injures nine in Kharkiv residential area

A Russian aerial attack in Kharkiv city, eastern Ukraine, killed one person and wounded nine others, local authorities reported on Saturday (June 20, 2026). The strike hit a residential area in the Kholodnogirsky district.

Kharkiv Mayor Igor Terekhov said a woman was trapped under rubble after a guided aerial bomb strike. During search and rescue operations, the body of a deceased person was recovered, he confirmed on Telegram.

Oleg Synegubov, head of the regional military administration, reported that nine people were wounded, five of whom were hospitalised.

In southern Ukraine, authorities in Kherson said a 72-year-old woman was wounded in a drone strike in Zelenivka. Three others were wounded in drone attacks in Kherson's Korabelny district.

Russia's Ministry of Defence claimed its air defences shot down 187 Ukrainian fixed-wing unmanned aerial vehicles across Russia overnight.

The attacks follow Ukraine's largest drone strike on Moscow two days earlier, which sparked fires, hit a major oil refinery, and forced evacuations at the country's largest airport.

The conflict, which began in February 2022, has seen both sides escalate attacks in recent weeks, while U.S.-led peace talks remain stalled.
