Russia to Ramp Up Air Defence Production After Ukrainian Drone Strikes, Putin Says
President Vladimir Putin said on Sunday (June 28, 2026) that Russia needs to significantly increase its production of anti-aircraft systems to counter Ukrainian drone strikes on oil infrastructure. However, he added that the country is managing the disruptions caused by the attacks.
In a televised interview, Putin stated: 'The first task is to quickly and significantly ramp up production of those air defence systems that are most needed.' He emphasised that the strikes would not hinder Russia's plans to advance on the front lines of the conflict, which has lasted more than four years.
'All the strikes, wherever they hit our infrastructure, absolutely do not affect the situation on the front, on the line of combat contact,' Putin said.
The comments come as Ukraine has increasingly used drones to target Russian oil facilities, aiming to disrupt Moscow's military logistics. Russia has been forced to adapt its air defence strategies to counter the evolving threat.
