Russia Strikes Kyiv with Ballistic Missiles, Killing One and Wounding 14

Russia launched a series of ballistic missile strikes on the Ukrainian capital Kyiv overnight, resulting in one death and at least 14 injuries, according to Ukrainian officials. The attack is described by President Volodymyr Zelensky as one of the most massive ballistic assaults on the city since the start of the full-scale invasion.

The Ukrainian military reported that air defence systems successfully intercepted 18 of the 41 missiles launched. Additionally, 108 drones were shot down. The strikes involved a range of Russian weaponry, including Iskander and hypersonic Zircon missiles, along with 125 drones, as stated by the Ukrainian air force.

Kyiv Mayor Vitaliy Klitschko confirmed that both residential and non-residential buildings sustained damage, including a supermarket and a dormitory. Firefighters are currently battling blazes at two warehouses.

In a statement on Telegram, President Zelensky noted that over the past week, Russia had used approximately 1,450 strike drones, more than 1,640 guided bombs, and 99 missiles of various types against Ukraine.

In response, Ukraine continued its own operations against Russian targets. The governor of the Stavropol region in southwestern Russia reported a drone attack that caused a fire at an industrial park. No casualties were mentioned in that incident.

The overnight strikes on Kyiv came after Ukrainian drones destroyed two warehouses belonging to Russia's largest online retailer, Wildberries, resulting in eight deaths and significant fires. The sequence of attacks highlights the ongoing reciprocal nature of the conflict.
