RSS Chief Mohan Bhagwat to Address Women on 'Contemporary Motherhood' in First-of-its-Kind Event
Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) chief Mohan Bhagwat is scheduled to deliver a lecture on 'contemporary motherhood' and interact with women leaders during a two-day awareness meeting organised by Vishwa Mangalya Sabha in New Delhi on July 23-24.
According to the organisation, the July 24 interaction at the Dr Ambedkar International Centre on Janpath will mark the first time an incumbent RSS chief holds a detailed dialogue with women on the theme of motherhood. The programme will include a question-and-answer session with participants.
Vishwa Mangalya Sabha national organising secretary Vrushali Joshi said the organisation has chosen 'Yuganukul Matrutva (contemporary motherhood)' as its focus area for the coming years following consultations with women across the country. The event aims to discuss the evolving role of mothers in modern society while addressing challenges and opportunities.
The RSS, founded in 1925, has traditionally focused on cultural and social issues. While its leadership has occasionally spoken on family and women's roles, this event marks a significant engagement specifically with women on motherhood. The choice of Dr Ambedkar International Centre as the venue—a space named after B.R. Ambedkar, a key architect of the Indian Constitution—adds symbolic weight to the dialogue.
Vishwa Mangalya Sabha, the organising body, describes itself as a platform for women's empowerment and social harmony. Its decision to invite the RSS chief indicates a growing intersection between traditionalist organisations and contemporary gender discourse.
The event is expected to draw participants from various women's groups, academicians, and social workers. The interactive session will allow attendees to pose questions directly to Bhagwat, providing a rare opportunity for direct dialogue with the RSS chief on a topic that blends personal, cultural, and societal dimensions.
Observers note that this initiative could signal a broader effort by the RSS to engage more deeply with women's perspectives, especially as debates around gender roles and motherhood continue to evolve in India. However, the organisation has not specified any follow-up plans or policy outcomes from the meeting.
