Rotary Club and Fourrts Donate ₹60 Lakh Mobile Oral Cancer Screening Bus to SRIHER
The Rotary Club of Adyar, in partnership with Fourrts India Laboratories Pvt. Ltd., donated a mobile oral cancer care bus worth ₹60 lakh to Sri Ramachandra Dental College and Hospital (SRIHER) on Tuesday. The vehicle is designed to reach underserved and high-risk communities, offering early detection and screening for oral cancer.
The mobile unit was inaugurated by Chancellor V.R. Venkataachalam at the SRIHER campus. Also present were S.V. Veeramani, Chairman and Managing Director of Fourrts India Laboratories, and D. Devendran, District Governor of the Rotary Club. Vice-Chancellor Uma Sekar and senior faculty members from the medical and dental colleges attended the event.
Equipped with a VELscope oral fluorescence imaging device and facilities for microscopic examination, the bus enables dental professionals to identify suspicious lesions during screening camps. Individuals with such lesions will undergo brush biopsy and be referred to the hospital for further diagnosis and multidisciplinary treatment.
Oral cancer is a significant public health concern in India, with high incidence rates linked to tobacco use and poor oral hygiene. This mobile unit aims to bridge the gap in healthcare access, particularly for populations in remote areas who may not have regular access to screening services. The initiative underscores the collaborative effort of civic organisations and corporate entities in strengthening public health infrastructure.
