Puducherry court summons TN Finance Minister in assault case, fresh charges filed
The First Judicial Magistrate Court in Puducherry has directed Tamil Nadu Finance Minister N. Marie Wilson to appear in the court on Saturday (July 5, 2026) to receive a copy of an additional charge-sheet filed by the Lawspet police in a case of trespass and assault.
The case was registered in 2022 based on a complaint by Careline Calude, wife of the Minister’s brother, who resides in Puducherry. The complainant had challenged the initial First Information Report (FIR) for invoking only minor provisions against Mr. Wilson. She provided video footage as evidence, leading a Mahila Court to order further investigation and a fresh FIR.
Following the Minister's election to the Tamil Nadu Assembly, the case was transferred to the First Judicial Magistrate Court. The police have now filed a fresh charge-sheet invoking additional provisions. According to Puducherry Police sources, the fresh charge-sheet was submitted before the Assembly election results were declared.
The charges against Mr. Wilson include house trespass, causing damage by mischief, voluntarily causing hurt, causing hurt with a weapon, assaulting a woman with intent to outrage her modesty, criminal intimidation, and using obscene words.
Sources also indicated that Mr. Wilson’s father, Nestor Wilson, was present during the incident at the brother’s house in Ezhil Nagar, Puducherry. A separate case has been registered against him. The assault is reported to have stemmed from a property dispute within the family.
