Private schools in Telangana directed to upload fee structures on portal

The School Education Department of Telangana has issued a directive mandating all private school managements to upload their class-wise fee structure, along with supporting documents, on the department's official portal. The move is aimed at ensuring strict compliance with mandatory record submission and checking allegations of excessive fee hikes year after year.

According to an order from the Director of School Education, E. Naveen Nicolas, Regional Joint Directors of School Education and District Educational Officers have been tasked with informing and following up with private school managements to display the fees being charged for the current academic year. The directive applies to all private unaided schools across the state.

The order specifies that schools must upload not only the fee structure but also the deliberations and documents that went into determining the fees. This includes the signatures of the members of the school's Governing Board. The transparency measure is intended to give parents and authorities a clear view of how fees are decided and to prevent arbitrary increases.

Officials have been instructed to issue show-cause notices to schools that fail to display the fee structure on their notice boards or submit the details on the department's portal, as per existing rules. This is part of a broader effort to regulate private school fee structures and ensure accountability.

The portal, accessible at https://schooledu.telangana.gov.in/, already serves as a platform for various school-related services and information. The fee upload requirement adds to the existing compliance obligations for private schools under the state's educational regulations.

This development comes amid growing concerns over the financial burden on parents due to steep fee hikes in private schools. Several state governments have introduced similar measures to bring transparency to fee fixation and protect the interests of students and parents. The Telangana government's directive aligns with these efforts, providing a formal mechanism for oversight.

School managements have been advised to complete the upload process within the stipulated timeframe to avoid penal action.
