Health Minister Satya Kumar Yadav to Flag Off 72 Mobile Medical Units in Dharmavaram
Minister for Health Satya Kumar Yadav will undertake a two-day tour of his Dharmavaram Assembly constituency on September 25 and 26, with a focus on health services, welfare schemes and infrastructure works, according to a press release issued by his office.
The visit will begin on September 25 with the flagging off of 72 new ‘104 Mobile Medical Unit (MMU) vehicles’ at Atal Bihari Vajpayee Circle in Dharmavaram town at 10 a.m. The units are intended to bring primary healthcare to the doorstep of people in rural and urban areas and to ensure that medical assistance reaches them in time.
Mobile medical units are vehicles staffed by doctors and paramedical personnel that travel to villages and underserved neighbourhoods on fixed schedules. They generally offer basic consultations, diagnostic tests and free medicines, and refer patients who need specialised care to hospitals. Governments across the country run such units under different names to supplement fixed health facilities, particularly in areas where primary health centres are far away or short of staff.
Dharmavaram is an Assembly constituency in the Sri Sathya Sai district of Andhra Pradesh. The constituency, like many in the region, has a mix of town and village populations, and outreach programmes of this kind are aimed at people who find it difficult to travel to a hospital for routine treatment.
Later on September 25, at 12 p.m., the Minister will take part in the National Deworming Day programme at the Girls High School near Kalajyothi Circle. The event is intended to create awareness among children about worm infestation and about preventive care.
National Deworming Day is observed as part of a public health effort to reduce soil-transmitted worm infections among children and adolescents. Deworming is carried out by administering tablets in schools and anganwadi centres, with follow-up rounds for children who miss the first dose. Health officials say regular deworming supports better nutrition, growth and school attendance among children.
In the evening, the Minister will distribute cheques from the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund (CMRF) to beneficiaries at the NDA office in Dharmavaram. The assistance is meant for families of patients undergoing treatment for serious ailments.
The CMRF is a state fund from which financial help is sanctioned to individuals and families facing medical emergencies or other hardship. Applications are usually routed through local officials and elected representatives, and the amount sanctioned depends on the nature of the illness and the estimated cost of treatment.
