PM Modi Witnesses New Zealand's Sports Tech Revolution as India, NZ Forge Strategic Partnership
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday toured an exhibition showcasing New Zealand's innovative sports equipment and technologies, joined by his New Zealand counterpart Christopher Luxon. The event featured demonstrations by leading athletes and sporting icons, highlighting cutting-edge gear and digital tools.
Modi is in New Zealand on the final leg of his three-nation visit, the first by an Indian Prime Minister in 40 years. Earlier in the day, he and Luxon held talks that elevated bilateral ties to a strategic partnership. They set a five-year target to double annual trade in goods and services to ₹35,000 crore by 2030.
The meeting yielded 18 concrete outcomes, including 10 agreements spanning defence, renewable energy, and education. Modi also interacted with a select group of CEOs and business leaders to boost investment ties. He received a ceremonial welcome at Government House in Auckland, including a traditional Maori powhiri, which he called 'a moving reflection of New Zealand’s rich heritage.'
Modi's three-nation tour, which included Indonesia and Australia, focused on expanding cooperation in the Indo-Pacific amid China's growing assertiveness. The sports showcase underscored the potential for collaboration in sports technology and innovation.
