PM Modi to Launch 100-Week Anti-Drug Campaign on August 2, Minister Announces
Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports Mansukh Mandaviya announced on Wednesday that Prime Minister Narendra Modi will launch a nationwide 100-week campaign to raise awareness against drug abuse on August 2, 2026. The campaign, titled 'Nasha Mukta Yuva for Viksit Bharat Sankalp Abhiyaan', aims to mobilise youth across India in the fight against substance abuse.
The campaign will feature weekly activities every Sunday, including walkathons, sports events, meditation sessions, street plays, and art competitions. These events are designed to promote a drug-free lifestyle and encourage community participation.
Speaking at a press conference, Mr. Mandaviya said, 'On August 2, 2026, Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi will launch the Nasha Mukta Yuva for Viksit Bharat Sankalp Abhiyaan and inspire the youth of the nation to contribute towards building a Drug-Free India.' He added that the campaign will be led by MY Bharat volunteers, with the objective of uniting young people in a collective national mission against substance abuse.
According to the Narcotics Control Bureau's 2025 report, approximately 1.34 lakh kilograms of narcotic drugs were seized across the country, with an estimated market value of around ₹1,980 crore. The report also noted that a record 42,282 acres of illegal opium cultivation were destroyed in 2025, a significant increase from 10,000 acres in 2020.
Mr. Mandaviya expressed concern over these figures, calling them 'shocking' and emphasising the need for aggressive action. He urged all youth to actively participate in the campaign.
On the launch day, more than one crore youth are expected to participate simultaneously at over 10,000 locations across the country, taking a national pledge against drug abuse. The campaign will involve MY Bharat volunteers, youth clubs, schools, colleges, universities, NGOs, and over 125 spiritual organisations.
Volunteers and organisations that make outstanding contributions will be recognised at the 50th, 75th, and 100th week milestones of the campaign.
