Karnataka Deputy CM G. Parameshwara hospitalised after heart rate spike; condition stable
Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister G. Parameshwara was admitted to a private hospital in Bengaluru on Tuesday after he experienced discomfort and a rise in heart rate at a badminton event, officials said. The Deputy Chief Minister, a senior leader in the state, was at a public event when he felt unwell. Doctors at Vydehi Superspeciality Hospital said his condition was stable and that he was likely to remain under observation for a day or two.
The incident took place during the inaugural ceremony of a tournament organised by the Karnataka Badminton Association. In a post on X, Parameshwara said he felt a "slight increase in my heart rate" during the event and went to the hospital immediately as a precaution. He said he received the necessary medical care.
In the post, he thanked Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar, former Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and other well-wishers who visited or called to enquire about his health. He also requested the public not to come to the hospital to meet him, saying he did not want other patients undergoing treatment there to be inconvenienced.
"During the inaugural ceremony of the badminton tournament organised by the Karnataka Badminton Association in Bengaluru today, I experienced a slight increase in my heart rate. As a precaution, I immediately went to the hospital and received the necessary medical care," he said. "Out of concern for my health, Chief Minister Shri D.K. Shivakumar, former Chief Minister Shri Siddaramaiah, and many other well-wishers visited the hospital and enquired about my well-being. Many others also called to check on my health. I am grateful to everyone for your love, concern and good wishes. There is no need for anyone to worry. By God's grace, my condition is now stable."
V.K. Srinivas, interventional cardiologist at the hospital, told reporters that Parameshwara's heartbeat was high when he arrived but that he was doing fine and his other parameters were normal. "He walked into the hospital without the need for a wheelchair," Dr Srinivas said. He added that the Deputy Chief Minister was under observation and was expected to be discharged by evening.
Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar, former Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and ministers Priyank Kharge, U.T. Khader and Yathindra Siddaramaiah visited the hospital to enquire about his health. The visits came as news of his admission spread, but doctors said there was no immediate cause for alarm.
The Deputy Chief Minister's request to avoid hospital visits was aimed at ensuring that care for other patients was not disturbed. Doctors said he was being monitored and was expected to be discharged by evening if his condition remained stable.
Public figures in India often receive a stream of visitors when they are hospitalised, and requests to avoid such visits are not unusual. In this case, Parameshwara's appeal was directed at preventing crowding at the hospital and ensuring that other patients were not put to inconvenience.
