PM Modi tells NDA MPs: Repeated disruptions deny nation a chance to hear new talent

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday (August 7, 2026) hosted about 45 Members of Parliament from National Democratic Alliance (NDA) constituent parties over a breakfast meeting. During the interaction, he expressed concern that repeated disruptions in Parliament were denying the country an opportunity to hear talented new MPs.

The meeting was attended by MPs from the Nationalist Citizens Party of India (NCPI), which recently quit the Trinamool Congress to join the NDA bloc, as well as the Shiv Sena, the Republican Party of India (Athawale), the Rashtriya Lok Morcha (RLM), the AIADMK, and the United People's Party Liberal (UPPL).

Among those present were Union Health Minister J.P. Nadda, BJP chief Nitin Nabin, NCPI MPs Khalilur Rahaman, Yusuf Pathan and Abu Taher Khan, RPI (Athawale) chief and Union Minister Ramdas Athawale, RLM president and Rajya Sabha member Upendra Kushwaha, AIADMK Rajya Sabha member M. Thambi Durai, and UPPL chief and Rajya Sabha member Pramod Boro.

Speaking to presspersons after the meeting, NCPI MP Kakoli Ghosh Dastidar said, “The Prime Minister said those who are with the NDA for the last 20 years or even one year are all family members. He said we will work hard for the development of West Bengal and the eight northeastern States. We all will work together. This is a very good message he has given to us, we all will work together.”

At the meeting, Mr. Modi reportedly stressed the need for the smooth functioning of Parliament. He urged MPs to practise yoga regularly, undergo periodic health check-ups and contribute effectively to nation-building. Assuring support for constituency development, he told them not to worry, saying he stood with every MP.

The Prime Minister's remarks come amid recurring adjournments and disruptions in both Houses of Parliament, which have often led to loss of legislative time. Political observers note that the presence of newer NDA partners, particularly the NCPI, signals an effort to broaden the coalition's regional outreach. The development focus on West Bengal and the northeastern states was highlighted as a key area of collaboration.

The breakfast meeting is seen as part of the government's ongoing consultations with alliance partners to ensure coordinated functioning during the parliamentary session. The PM's appeal for regular health check-ups and yoga aligns with the government's broader wellness initiatives, while his assurance of support for constituency development is intended to strengthen the morale of MPs.
