Parliamentary Panel to Visit Delhi Assembly Amid Defection Rumours in UP Parties
The Joint Committee of Parliament on 'One Nation One Election', chaired by BJP MP P P Chaudhary, is scheduled to conduct a field visit to the Delhi Assembly on July 1. During the visit, the committee is expected to hold discussions with Speaker Vijender Gupta, Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, and other stakeholders. According to sources, a meeting with Lieutenant Governor Taranjit Sandhu may also take place. The visit comes ahead of the committee's planned consultations with stakeholders in Goa and Uttar Pradesh in the second week of July.
Meanwhile, political circles in Uttar Pradesh remain alert over potential defections, even though speculation about Samajwadi Party (SP) MPs switching to the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) has subsided for now. Suheldev Bharatiya Samaj Party (SBSP) chief Om Prakash Rajbhar had earlier raised the possibility of such defections, but the buzz has since quietened. However, leaders from both the Congress and the SP continue to monitor their ranks for potential crossovers. Congress leaders are assessing which SP MPs could be poached by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), while SP leaders are similarly identifying vulnerable Congress MPs. Names of several MPs from both parties, particularly those who have previously switched allegiances, are being discussed in political circles.
