Over 30 students hospitalised after breakfast at Kalaburagi school; two critical
More than 30 students of the Morarji Desai Residential School in Karajagi village, Afzalpur taluk, Kalaburagi district, fell ill after consuming breakfast on Thursday, according to officials.
The students reported symptoms including stomach pain, vomiting, and general discomfort shortly after eating. They were initially given first-aid at a local healthcare facility before being transferred to the Afzalpur taluk hospital.
Two students, identified as Basavaraj and Karthik, were in a serious condition and were shifted to the Government Institute of Medical Sciences (GIMS) in Kalaburagi for specialised care.
Officials suspect that the illness may have been caused by consuming avalakki (beaten rice), but the exact cause is yet to be confirmed. Medical reports are awaited.
At least six ambulances were deployed to transport the affected students, with several others being moved to Kalaburagi for further treatment. Authorities are closely monitoring the remaining students.
The Morarji Desai Residential School is part of a government scheme providing free education and accommodation to underprivileged children. The incident has prompted an inquiry by health and education officials.
