The National Testing Agency's (NTA) income has more than doubled over the past five years, rising from Rs 504.16 crore in 2019–20 to Rs 1,116.84 crore in 2023–24, according to data presented by the Centre in Parliament. Expenditure during the same period increased from Rs 440.20 crore to Rs 1,040.96 crore.

The figures were provided by Minister of State for Education Sukanta Majumdar in a written reply to a question in the Rajya Sabha on Wednesday. The data comes from the NTA’s Income and Expenditure Account, prepared under the Accrual Accounting System and approved by the agency’s Governing Body.

The NTA, established in 2017, conducts major entrance examinations such as JEE (Main), NEET UG, UGC NET, and CTET. Its income remained relatively stable between 2019–20 and 2021–22, registering Rs 515.16 crore in 2020–21 and Rs 508.47 crore in 2021–22, with corresponding expenditure of Rs 436.25 crore and Rs 426.52 crore. However, income surged in subsequent years, reaching Rs 1,116.84 crore in 2023–24.

The ministry also disclosed that the NTA currently has 39 permanent posts, all filled through deputation. The agency's financial performance highlights its growing role in the country's examination system, as it handles an increasing number of test-takers each year.
