NHAI Maps 595 Accident-Prone Unauthorised Parking Spots on Highways After Supreme Court Directive

Following a Supreme Court order addressing unauthorised parking on national highways, the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) has identified 595 critical locations across all states where vehicles commonly park on the main carriageway, creating safety hazards.

Officials stated that 20 such locations have been pinpointed in each state, with precise longitude and latitude coordinates. These sites are also known for frequent accidents.

“This is the first phase of identifying unauthorised parking areas. After clearing these hotspots, other stretches will be identified. We have sought assistance from state governments and district administrations to remove illegal parking on highways,” said an NHAI official.

The initiative is part of broader efforts to improve road safety and comply with judicial directives. NHAI plans to continue monitoring and clearing unauthorized parking in phases.
