Netherlands Crush Tunisia 2-0 in First Seven Minutes, Top Group F
Kansas City saw a sea of fluorescent orange as Tunisia, already eliminated from the World Cup after conceding nine goals in two matches, attempted to end their campaign on a positive note. However, any hope was extinguished within the first three minutes.
The Netherlands, needing only to avoid being overtaken by Japan's goal difference against Sweden to finish atop Group F, secured victory with an early onslaught. In the third minute, Denzel Dumfries drove a low ball across the face of goal. Tunisia captain Ellyes Skhiri, attempting to clear, turned it into his own net — the 12th own goal of the tournament, equalling the record for a single World Cup.
Before the seventh minute, the score was 2-0. Virgil van Dijk headed a free kick from Reijnders across the box, and Brian Brobbey reacted quickest to half-volley his third goal of the tournament past Tunisia goalkeeper Aymen Dahmen. The two-goal lead inside seven minutes was no surprise given Tunisia's defensive struggles throughout the tournament.
The Netherlands controlled the remainder of the match, comfortably securing the win and top spot in the group. For Tunisia, it was a disappointing end to a World Cup in which they failed to score a single goal and conceded 11 in total.
