NEET-UG Re-exam: Medical Colleges Barred from Granting Leave to Students on Test Days
The National Medical Commission has directed all medical colleges and institutions under its purview not to grant leave to students on June 20 and 21, except in exceptional circumstances, to support the fair conduct of the NEET-UG re-examination scheduled for Sunday, June 21, 2026.
In a notice issued on Thursday, June 18, the Commission stated that the move comes in the backdrop of past instances where medical college students were found to be involved in activities that could compromise the sanctity and integrity of the examination process.
The instruction has been issued in compliance with directions from the Department of Higher Education under the Ministry of Education regarding the conduct of the medical entrance examination, the Commission said.
The NMC also asked medical colleges to remain vigilant and sensitise students against involvement in any activities that could compromise the examination's integrity. The notice mentioned that past instances of misconduct necessitated this preventive measure.
Colleges were advised to only grant leave under exceptional circumstances with due justification. The Commission described the measure as a preventive step to discourage misuse and support a fair examination.
The National Testing Agency had cancelled the NEET (UG) 2026 exam held on May 3 amid allegations of a paper leak. The government subsequently requested the Central Bureau of Investigation to carry out a comprehensive inquiry into the irregularities. The NEET (UG) re-examination is scheduled for June 21.
